Senior Accountant


Maintains the integrity of the general ledger. Maintains the fixed journal, depreciation register, reconciles various general ledger accounts and prepares bank reconciliations. Assists the V.P. of Finance, Accounting, & IT/CFO and the Controller with other month-end procedures, the budget, annual audit, and other financial analyses.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

- Prepares and records monthly fixed journal entries.

- Prepares misc. accounts receivable invoices.

- Updates and maintains fixed asset/depreciation register and reconciles to general ledger.

- Reconciles monthly bank statements.

- Prepares schedules for and assists auditors with year-end audit.

- Assists with the annual budget development.

- Assists V.P. of Finance, Accounting, & IT/CFO and the Controller with financial analyses, projects, and special assignments for a variety of existing and proposed activities of the Cooperative.

- Establishes and maintains asset records of general plant equipment and reconciles to the general ledger.

- Maintains accurate financial records by preparing general ledger reconciliations, identifying reconciling items or errors and recording adjusting entries of various general ledger accounts as necessary.

- Reconciles and prepares other state and federal tax and survey filings as necessary.

- Seeks opportunities to improve efficiency in every aspect of the position.

- Provides back-up for the Controller.

- Lead annual capital credit allocation process and capital credit retirements when approved.

- Participates in the development of monthly income and balance sheet financial statements.

- Prepares various internal statistical reports.

- Assist Controller with tax returns as assigned.

- Analyzes monthly results and researches variances.

- Performs other duties as directed or required.

Job Requirements:

- Education/Experience:

o Four-year college degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting.

o 3 years of related work experience. Electric utility experience preferred.

- Knowledge and Skills:

o Ability to apply accounting knowledge, experience and speed with attention to detail and accuracy.

o Knowledge and experience in operating office equipment, including 10-key and computer (accounting software) with speed and accuracy.

o Knowledge of Excel and Word and the ability to work with software with speed and accuracy.

o Good verbal and written communication skills.

o Technical understanding of flow of costs in general ledger and sub-ledgers.

o Thorough understanding of principles of internal controls and their implementation.

o Familiar with Cooperative policies and procedures.

o Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

- Working Conditions

o Normal office environment with low noise level.

o Travel may be required.
