Position Details:
As the Proposal Development Specialist, you will support the overall operation of the Office of Research Advancement and Partnerships (ORAP) programming including acting as a proposal consultant, assisting with strategic planning for ORAP proposal programing, providing oversight of training programs, assisting faculty with finding funding, facilitating and leading educational opportunities for the WSU research community, and providing proposal review at all stages. You will be required to use independent judgment, decision-making, and initiative in performing all duties. Also, you will manage staff that support the previously outlined activities. You will facilitate the proposal development process from pre-RFP activities through proposal submission including, but not limited to, creating a development schedule, coordinating milestones, managing internal deadlines, organizing meetings, and filling out forms related to proposal submission. In this role, you will also be responsible for coordinating with principal investigators to develop non-technical proposal sections, such as resources, facilities, project management, past performance, outreach, and evaluation. Additionally, you will coordinate internal and external reviews and create and maintain a process for incorporation of the feedback into the proposal. You will also have the opportunity to develop, in consultation with the AVP/AVC, recurring training programming, outreach activities, information sessions, and mentoring programming. You will schedule and collaborate with faculty and staff to provide training to the WSU research community. In this role, you will support faculty in all aspects of finding funding including using PIVOT and other databases; stay current on RFPS from funders; attend webinars from major funders; and keep up to date records of current and forthcoming opportunities. You will develop and maintain templates, forms, and other resources and content for the proposal library, website, and other forums for use by researchers, as well as provide support as needed on post-submission requests by sponsor and/or other offices.
Based in Pullman, WA, with the possibility for hybrid work options.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Three (3) years of proposal writing experience with federal and non-federal sponsors for extramural applications.
- Experience successfully developing single investigator research proposals.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm).
- May require travel outside the Pullman area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD degree demonstrating general knowledge of various technical fields.
- General experience in a wide range of disciplines: business, administration, legal, accounting, grants management.
- Familiarity with major federal and non-federal sponsors that support university research and scholarship.
- Ability to provide supportive leadership and clear communication in a team-based environment.

Monthly Salary: $5,486 - $8,400 In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
