DEPUTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS - CRIMINAL

Full Wage Range (monthly): $6,833.33 - $9,950.44 per month

Hiring Range: $6,833.33 - $8,853.33 per month DOQ

SIGN-ON BONUS: $10,000

- DPA I - Criminal (Entry Level)

Entry-level prosecutorial position representing the State of Washington in District Court, handling misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases with opportunities to expand into juvenile, felony, or civil commitment matters as experience grows. Responsibilities include managing a high-volume caseload, reviewing and filing charges, negotiating plea agreements, preparing and presenting cases in court, collaborating with law enforcement, and advising victims and witnesses. All work is performed in accordance with legal requirements, professional ethics, and established office policies.

- DPA II - Criminal (Experienced)

Juris Doctor (ABA-accredited), Washington State Bar Association membership in good standing, and at least 3 years' legal practice (criminal trial experience preferred). Legal role representing the State of Washington in prosecuting felony cases in Superior or Juvenile Court, including complex or serious crimes, and occasionally high-level misdemeanor cases. Responsibilities include reviewing law enforcement reports, determining charges, managing and prioritizing a high-volume felony caseload, developing prosecution strategies, negotiating plea agreements, preparing witnesses, and representing the County at all stages of criminal proceedings. The position also involves advising law enforcement during investigations, assisting with warrants, managing appeals, preparing legal documents, and collaborating with other prosecutors on complex cases.

Job Summary and Necessary Qualifications:
This position provides legal and administrative support for the Superior Court Criminal Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Duties include preparing and proofreading legal documents, managing discovery, maintaining case files, assisting attorneys with exhibits and trial preparation, handling reception and phone duties, and processing mail and filings. The role requires frequent interaction with law enforcement, attorneys, court staff, and the public in a professional and courteous manner. High attention to detail is required. Office and courtroom setting, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Frequent deadlines, interruptions, and interaction with the public. No telecommuting. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a legal support role (e.g., legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary), or equivalent education and experience demonstrating ability to perform essential duties. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
